Week 44 - Lady of the Lake
Hi there, this weeks block is the Lady of the Lake. Another traditional block that you can use in a one block quilt. The pattern that emerges as the blocks are together is always stunning.
Can you tell that there is something missing this week? Hmmmm, the blue 12” blocks has made an escape and for the life of me I can’t put my hands on it. Fingers crossed it’s hiding at home, grrrrrr! When it reappears I will include the photo. I hate it when things play hide and seek with me.
This quilt block was named after a poem by Sir Walter Scott, published in 1810. The pioneer men and women loved the tales of Sir Walter Scott, and the women honoured him by naming a patchwork block after the poem. The earliest quilted Lady of the Lake block appeared in 1820. This is one of the few quilt blocks that has never been known by another name!
Have a fantastic week and we will see you next week.
