Week 23 - Log Cabin Variation

I am getting all packed up and ready to head off to our Quilt Retreat Weekend, starting tonight. I’ll be posting loads of photos on all the marvellous projects that everyone is making. Kind of have sewing envy too when I see whats being made haha.

Here we are with this weeks block - Week 23 already. We are nearly half way through already. This week we have a variation on a Log Cabin block. We have actually made a Log Cabin Block back in Week 6 so pop back there if you want to refresh your memory on this block. Haha, I have to refresh my memory multiple times a day!

The block is made with four sections that are each a mini Log Cabin. Two sections the same fabric layout and the other two sections I have reversed the fabric layout.

As you will know by now, I am a huge fan of a scrappy style of quilt - where you can use all sorts in your blocks. I found this tutorial for a scrappy half log cabin block quilt. Click on the image to take you to the tutorial.

Log Cabin blocks are all about sewing in an order, around a centre square. Some great options there.

During lock down, I started trying to grow an avocado plant from the seed. It took two and a half months to actually turn into something other than a seed. I was ready to throw it out thinking that it wasn’t going to work.

I posted a photo back in August of the progress and now look at it - potted and growing like crazy. A lot of lovely ladies told me that it wouldn’t fruit for years. I’m sure they were not wanting me to be disappointed - but I actually want it to be a pot plant so there we are.

Kind of cheesey but I really love this wee plant and helps me to keep focused on growth and good things.
